Learning to tie your own shoes is a rite of passage that can be one of the more frustrating for parents to teach. It's seldom a one-time lesson. Instead, it requires lots of practice — and patience! Some observers think kids are gaining this skill later than they once did, thanks to this age of slip-ons and Velcro. Keep your child ahead of the curve by spending a relaxed Saturday morning — not when you're rushing out the door on a weekday — introducing the idea.
